Never seen the animated series, but look forward to doing so since some of the stories were planned for a fourth season of TOS if I remember correctly.

I'm not so sure about that. The animated episodes are only half an hour long. But the ARE written by the some of the same writers who wrote TOS. Larry Niven even wrote the one which features the Kzinti. Walter Koenig also wrote one.

Well of course they made some adjustments to the stories. I didn't say they used the scripts, they used some ideas they had to the animated series instead.
I think Koenig is in the animated series, right? I remember Walter saying that Leonard stood up for him when they originally weren't going to include him, Leonard threatened to not be a part of the show if that was the case.

No Chekhov wasn't in TAS sadly they used a new alien crew member named Arex instead.
